Edmonton’s Cadence Weapon has been repping the oft-overlooked Canadian rap scene for several years, even once holding the position of Edmonton’s Poet Laureate. Now Montreal-based, his recently-released third record ‘Hope In Dirt City’ finds the MC working with independent Canadian artists like Doldrums, crafting distinctly Canadian avant-rap. For episode 10 of Noisemakers, we stuck with the themes of his album and took Cadence Weapon inside a dilapidated abandoned building to perform Dirt City highlight “Conditioning” and talk to us about the Canadian rap scene, being the “black AC/DC” and music as his lifelong document.
